With September nearly in the rearview mirror, it is time to start looking toward the long-range October outlook. The latest forecast models signal that most of the U.S. will experience temperatures that hover above the norm in addition to drier than usual conditions. Here is a closer look at the long-range October forecast.

Overall Temperature Trends for October

Above-average warmth is forecast to dominate much of the U.S. this fall, with the strongest anomalies centered over the Southwest and Northeast. (NOAA)

The new weather outlook issued this week, as a joint effort between The Weather Company and Atmospheric G2, is painting the picture of a warmer and drier October when compared to seasonal norms for this time of the year. The majority of the U.S. will see temperatures that trend above the historical average for the tenth month of the year.

The emerging La Niña pattern will contribute to the warmer temperatures. Some parts of the country will see the summer-like readings linger, despite the shorter days and the longer nights.
