A powerful tropical storm continues to threaten the mid-Atlantic coast today, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and dangerous coastal flooding. Residents from the Carolinas to southern New England should remain alert, as conditions are expected to worsen throughout Sunday. Authorities are closely monitoring the storm and urging precautions.

Strong Winds Could Reach Hurricane Levels

Wind gusts could reach up to 80 mph in some areas, strong enough to topple trees, cause widespread power outages, and damage unsecured structures. Even if the storm is not officially classified as a hurricane, some coastal locations may experience hurricane-level wind impacts. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel.

Severe Coastal Flooding Expected

Coastal flooding poses a major threat along the mid-Atlantic. Water levels could rise 1–3 feet in most areas, with pockets reaching 4–6 feet in low-lying beach communities and back bays. Some regions may face the most significant storm surge since Hurricane Sandy. Flooded streets and submerged roads could make travel dangerous, and homes in vulnerable areas may be at risk.
