Severe storms tore through the Midwest over the weekend, dumping nearly a foot of rain, causing deadly flooding, and leaving behind widespread damage from Nebraska to Wisconsin.

Milwaukee Swamped Under Historic Rain

In Wisconsin, relentless downpours drenched Milwaukee with 8 to 11 inches of rain west of the city, with some pockets likely topping a foot. The flooding was so severe it forced the cancellation of the final day of the Wisconsin State Fair. Mayor Cavalier Johnson called the flooding “something that Milwaukee hasn’t seen in perhaps a decade or more.”

A flood watch for the city remains in effect until early Monday, with the National Weather Service warning that flash flooding from excessive rainfall is still possible.
