Body of 23-Year-Old Recovered After Being Swept Away by Flood

A woman who had been reported missing after floodwaters engulfed her home in Missouri has been found dead. Faith Gregory's body was found by volunteers just 1.8 miles from her home over the weekend. Gregory was swept out of her home in Huzzah Creek by the raging flood waters that hit this part of Missouri on Friday.

The flash flooding event unfolded quickly on Friday, prompting Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe to issue a state of emergency. The southeastern corner of the Show Me State was caught in the crosshairs of the relentless rain, totaling up to 12 inches in a period of just hours. Roads and campgrounds were overwhelmed by the torrential rain that triggered flooding in the area surrounding the Black River.

Gregory was in the home that she shared with her boyfriend, Logan Ousley, when the walls collapsed from the sheer force of the floodwaters. The pair and their four dogs were able to jump into a kayak; however, Gregory and the dogs were swept away in the fast-moving currents. While Ousley was able to climb to safety, Gregory was missing until the next day. Three of the dogs were rescued by others.

Gregory's sister, Kayla Dawn, immediately took to social media to plead for people to try to find her missing sister. In a later post, Dawn confirmed that the body had been recovered. While Dawn said that there would be no GoFundMe established, she encouraged people looking to donate to send funds to the Wilson Mortuary to help with the funeral arrangements.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood emergency on Friday morning. The agency urged residents in the impact area to move to higher ground, warning that it was a life-threatening situation.
