While the majority of the monster storm event that churned through the central and eastern U.S. over the last few days has dissipated, lingering snow squalls will continue to present dangers for the Upper Midwest and the Northeast. Here is a look at the pervasive impacts of this whopper of a storm.

Lingering Snow Squalls for the Upper Midwest into the Northeast

Forecasters are warning those in the Upper Midwest through the Northeast to be mindful of the threat of heavy snow squalls into early Wednesday. Motorists should be prepared for the chance of slick roads and sudden whiteouts on the roadways.

The atmospheric conditions on Tuesday feature cool air hovering near the surface of the ground pairing with much colder temperatures higher in the sky to produce rising cumulus clouds capable of generating bouts of heavy snow. Areas in this zone are forecast to see a mix of sunshine and quickly-moving snow squalls.

This NOAA forecast map highlights the zone most at risk for lingering snow squalls, with quick bursts of heavy snow expected to create slick roads, sudden whiteouts, and possible travel delays into early Wednesday. (NOAA Weather Prediction Center)
