A surge of Arctic air is roaring in behind the winter storm that left at least 18 dead and over 1 million customers without power over the weekend. Arctic Air Invades Central and Eastern U.S. in Wake of Winter Storm

There is no rest for the storm-weary eastern half of the country. Arctic air and more chances of wintry precipitation will continue to impact much of the region in the days ahead. The inclement conditions are coming on the heels of the worst winter storm in years. Over a foot of snow fell in a zone from southern Illinois and up into the northeastern U.S. Some parts of New England had already measured over 20 inches of snow by Monday aftenroon.

Meanwhile, the southern U.S. is dealing with the repercussions of a major ice storm. Unfortunately for the thousands of people still without power, temperatures will continue to fall as the Arctic air mass settles in. The forecast is calling for temperatures to hover at about 15 to 30 degrees below the historical average for the end of January.
