Chance of Record-Breaking Warmth Starting This Weekend in the Central U.S.
Forecasters are offering hope that the worst of the winter season is in the rearview mirror for most of the eastern half of the nation. A new wave of warmer temperatures will spread across the central and eastern U.S. beginning next week. While millions will welcome the break from the relentless cold of the last several weeks, the rapid warmup will also cause its own set of issues.
It has been a rough winter for most residents of the eastern two-thirds of the country. Several regions saw record-cold temperatures between January 24 and February 9. In fact, temperatures hovered more than 10 degrees below the historical average during this 17-day time period.
