Multiple Schoolchildren Injured After Grizzly Bear Attack

2 hours agoAuthorities in western Canada are urging residents to stay indoors after a grizzly bear attacked a group of elementary schoolchildren and teachers during an afternoon outing in the Bella Coola Valley, a remote region roughly 600 miles north of Vancouver.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. local time near Highway 20, where a mixed grade 4–5 class from Acwsalcta School was on a supervised walk. Officials say two people — one adult and one child — suffered critical injuries, while several others were treated for less severe wounds at the scene.
Emergency crews say challenging weather conditions slowed response efforts and required air support to transport the most seriously injured victims.
