New Week, New Atmospheric River for the West Coast
Christy Bowen
2 hours agoAn atmospheric river is going to hammer the West Coast with more heavy rain and mountain snow through the first part of the week, adding to the misery inflicted last week across much of the region. Here is the latest information on what is shaping up to be a messy start to the new work week for a large swath of the western U.S.
New Atmospheric River Impacting Northwest and Northern California
A parade of storms originating deep in the Pacific will continue to bring torrential rain, gusty winds, and measurable snow to the Pacific Northwest and Northern California through the day Tuesday. Unlike last week's weather maker, Southern California will dodge this latest influx of moisture. In addition, snow levels will trend much higher than what was seen last week.
An area of low pressure brewing off the coast of the Pacific began to move toward British Columbia, Canada, late Sunday. Rain will continue to expand to the coastal regions of the Northwest as snow picks up in intensity across the Cascades and to the east into the northern Rockies.
Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are on tap for the busy Interstate 5 corridor in Washington, Oregon, and the northern reaches of California through the end of the day Monday. This is the same general area that received similar amounts of rain last week. The additional moisture will raise the threat of flooding across the saturated terrain.
