Northeast Gets Roasted as Heat Wave Breaks Records from 1800s

5 hours agoThe Northeast just got hit with some seriously brutal heat that's breaking records going back more than a century. Tuesday was so hot that millions of people experienced the most miserable weather they've seen in over a decade.
We're talking about temperatures that made parts of the region feel like Death Valley. Air conditioners were running nonstop, and cities had to open cooling centers just to keep people from getting sick.
Tuesday Was the Worst Day
On Tuesday Boston hit 102 degrees – the hottest it's been since July 2011 when it reached 103. Philadelphia finally broke 100 degrees for the first time since July 2012.
New York City came close to triple digits at 99 degrees, but that was still enough to beat a record from 1888. Some spots around the city did hit 100, including Newark at 103 and JFK Airport at 102.
