You have to go back to last year to find the last time that a severe weather event impacted the Ohio Valley. Forecasters say that is all about to change on Thursday when a powerful storm system will support the development of a myriad of severe impacts. Read on for a closer look at the timing and expected location of this volatile weather maker.

Ohio Valley in the Bullseye for Severe Weather on Thursday

Meteorologists are telling residents of the Ohio Valley to be ready for a rash of severe storms on Thursday. Possible impacts of this system include flooding rainfall, hail, destructive winds, and the threat of isolated tornadic activity. The last time that the Ohio Valley saw severe storms of this magnitude was the fall of 2025.

While some parts of the Mississippi Valley saw thunderstorms earlier in the year, the Midwest and Ohio Valley have only been dealing with snow and ice over the last few months. The bulk of Thursday's expected storms is forecast to stretch from the Mississippi River Valley in Iowa, through Missouri, Illinois, southern Ohio, eastern Kentucky, and a slice of West Virginia.

Louisville will wake up to cloudy but dry conditions on Thursday. The largest city in Kentucky will see storms pop up later in the afternoon. You can expect a high of 67 degrees and winds out of the south at 10 to 15 mph. Storms and showers will persist through the evening hours before clearing out overnight. Lows will slide into the mid 40s overnight.
