Warmer temperatures are on the way for upstate New York and New England. However, the region must first grit through another round of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Here is a look at what wintry impacts are on the horizon, as well as when the warmer weather will finally make an appearance.

Wintry Precipitation Continues to Disrupt Life in New England

Various forms of wintry precipitation are continuing to impact parts of New York and New England. The latest forecast models indicate that bursts of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will persist into late Friday in these regions before a stark warmup unfolds. There is plenty of cold air still circulating over upstate New York and the central and northern portions of New England to support the development of the winter weather.

The last gasp of winter weather this week comes after an event on Tuesday that delivered snow and ice to roughly the same area. The forecast is calling for a moderate buildup of ice on elevated surfaces and untreated sidewalks and roadways. The icy conditions are expected in a zone from eastern New York state to the north into Vermont, New Hampshire, western and central Massachusetts, and the northwestern corner of Connecticut. The slick roads and sidewalks will be the most dangerous in areas that are not exposed to direct sunlight.

The ice buildup is not likely to be significant enough to bring down trees and power lines. That said, sporadic power outages will be a concern in wooded areas due to the heavy and wet snow.
