What was once Tropical Storm Amanda is losing steam as it moves into the cooler waters of the Pacific Ocean. Now forecasters are monitoring two additional areas of tropical weather heading into the new week. Here is a look at what is happening in the Eastern Pacific, as well as when the Atlantic basin is expected to wake up.

Tropical Storm Boris Threatens Mexico

Tropical Storm Amanda formed on Wednesday about halfway between Mexico and Hawaii in the Eastern Pacific. Amanda now carries the distinction of being the first named storm to come to life in the 2026 season.

Just as Amanda is dissipating, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are watching Tropical Storm Boris and a growing tropical rainstorm near Mexico. Both of these systems will bring impacts to the Mexican coastline beginning early in the week.

The National Hurricane Center's two-day graphical tropical weather outlook for the Eastern Pacific, issued at 4:38 AM PDT on Monday, June 8, 2026, showing Tropical Storm Boris off the coast of Mexico and a separate disturbance near Central America with a 90% formation chance within 48 hours.
