Following a brief break from the firehose of moisture that pummeled the Northwest last week, a new wave of rain, snow, and high winds is heading back to this corner of the country beginning on Monday. Read on for the details of the next Pineapple Express weather event.

Fresh Wave of Heavy Rain Targeting the Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest has not had a chance to recover from last week's catastrophic flooding, yet more precipitation is on the way to the water-logged region. The additional rain will amplify the threat of widespread flooding throughout the week.

A series of atmospheric rivers has targeted the northwestern U.S. over the last several days, triggering flash flooding, mudslides, and the risk of avalanches. Some parts of western Washington recorded over a month of rainfall in a period of just a few days.

Unfortunately for those crying for mercy, another Pineapple Express event is forecast to move across the Northwest early Monday. This specific type of rainstorm gets its name from its point of origin near the Hawaiian Islands. A Pineapple Express weather pattern transports the moisture-rich air from the tropical Pacific into the Northwest, resulting in immense rainfall and gusty conditions. The pattern is also distinguished by its warmer-than-usual temperatures.
