A series of storms originating in the Pacific Ocean is going to usher in an unsettled weather pattern for much of the western U.S. in the days ahead. A number of impacts are on deck with this storm train, including some of the first snow since last spring. Here is a look at this stormy forecast.

Significant amounts of low-elevation rain and mountain snow are on tap for the West beginning this weekend and persisting into early next week. The various forms of moisture will come at the hands of several storms that are gaining steam in the Pacific. The line of storms is expected to snarl traffic while amplifying the threat of flash flooding across the interior portions of the Southwest.

The first storm began to impact the coastal Pacific Northwest on Friday. It was a dreary day with scattered rain showers and cooler temperatures in places such as Seattle. The zone of moisture stretched from western Washington and down into Oregon and northwestern California. Although this storm was relatively tame, the next ones in line will be more volatile.
