911 Calls Fielded During Texas Flooding Event Demonstrate Panic of That Day
The Kerrville, Texas, police department has released over 20 hours of 911 calls that were made on the Fourth of July when a catastrophic flood event gripped the region. According to Kerrville Police Chief Chris McCall, the telecommunications center fielded a total of 435 calls. The flood was blamed for 136 fatalities.
The release of the call logs is in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act requests. McCall warned the public that the recordings were "disturbing." The logs are unredacted, making them particularly hard to hear for families who were impacted by the tragedy. McCall confirmed that some of the callers did not survive the raging floodwaters.
