Much has been said about the weather leading up to Thanksgiving Day. But what type of conditions should Americans prepare for on the back end of the holiday week? While the weather will clear up in some parts of the U.S, other areas will be dodging wintry impacts when they head home from the holiday weekend. Read on for more information on what the latest forecast models are signaling will be the biggest trouble spots.

Slick Conditions Could Hamper Travel Home After the Holiday

Travelers heading home after Thanksgiving Day will be facing the threat of gusty winds, lake-effect moisture, and sudden snow squalls across parts of the Great Lakes, the Plains, the Midwest, and the Northeast. The result will be the chance of slick road conditions and the likelihood of flight disruptions for millions of Americans.

A fresh round of lake-effect and synoptic snow is expected to sweep across the northern U.S. late this week, with the highest snowfall probabilities targeting Michigan, northern Ohio, Pennsylvania, and upstate New York. (NOAA/WPC)

The same weather maker that is setting up to create blizzard conditions across a large swath of the northern U.S. on Tuesday and Wednesday will also lay the groundwork for lake-effect snow for the Midwest, the Northeast, and beyond on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The widespread wintry precipitation will extend across a large swath of the Great Plains and into the Upper Midwest to close out the week.
