Americans hoping to get an early start on their Christmas travel this weekend could be met with less than ideal conditions. Here is a closer look at where travel could be impacted in the days leading up to the busy holiday week.

Friday's Travel Forecast

Over 100 million people are expected to travel more than 50 miles away from home this holiday season. Will Mother Nature cooperate this year? Although it could certainly be worse this time of the year, it will also not be smooth sailing. Those heading out early on Friday will experience active weather on both coasts, with generally calm conditions across the nation's mid-section.

The Pacific Northwest will continue to be battered by volatile storms, ushering in rain, snow, and high winds for the end of the week. Snow in the higher elevations could lead to pass closures across the Cascades and the northern Rockies. The persistent rain will also keep flooding in the picture in the lower elevations.
