Evacuations have been ordered across part of Los Angeles as the rain continues to come down in droves, with more on the way. Here is the latest on this rapidly changing situation in California.

Evacuation Orders Triggered in Los Angeles as Rain Intensifies

Several inches of rain are taking aim at Southern California to end the week, raising the risk of flash flooding, mudslides, and debris flows. It has already been a messy few days in this part of the Golden State as another wave of moisture is expected to move in over the weekend. Travel is going to be disrupted across a large swath of the region as the line of precipitation pushes inland and into the desert terrain of southeastern California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Local officials have issued evacuation orders for areas in and around the burn scars left by recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The burn scars produced by the deadly Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire last January have quickly turned into rivers of debris at times.

NOAA’s rainfall outlook highlights bullseye totals of 4–10 inches in Southern California’s mountains, where the highest risk of dangerous runoff and debris flows is expected. (NOAA/NWS/WPC)
