Rainy Weather Already Disrupting Vegas Formula 1 Race

4 hours agoWhile Las Vegas did not experience the same degree of heavy rain and flooding that its neighbors to the west did this week, Sin City picked up its fair share of moisture. The timing of the soggy conditions was not ideal ahead of this weekend's much-anticipated Formula 1 Grand Prix. Here is a look at how the weather impacted the practice sessions, as well as what to expect leading up to the big racing event.
Unseasonable Moisture Impacting Formula 1 Grand Prix Preparations
All eyes are on Las Vegas this weekend as Formula 1 makes its return to the Strip. Heavy rain churning through southern Nevada in advance of the race has been raising safety concerns for drivers.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a rare flash flood warning on Tuesday for the Las Vegas Valley and central portions of Clark County. Online videos showed water roaring through parking lots across many areas of the famed Strip. Las Vegas has historically had a difficult time taking on significant moisture due to the limited drainage systems and abundance of pavement. This means it does not take a lot of precipitation to create flash flooding concerns.
The rain showers have been ongoing over the last few days, putting a damper on Formula 1 practice sessions. Nearly an inch of rain fell on Tuesday and Wednesday in the city. This is more than triple the historical average for this part of Nevada for all of November.
