A major storm is brewing along the Atlantic coast, translating to a volatile weekend of weather for millions of Americans. Here is an updated forecast as this tropical wind and rainstorm bears down across much of the East Coast.

East Coast Braces for Monster Storm

A tropical wind and rainstorm are strengthening as it moves to the north along the Eastern Seaboard. Forecasters believe that this storm will most closely resemble a powerful nor'easter when it hits this weekend. There is also the possibility that the feature evolves into a sub-tropical storm as it inches closer to land. The storm will be called Lorenzo should it develop official tropical characteristics.

Regardless of whether this storm takes on a name, it will inevitably whip up damaging winds and other significant impacts. The latest forecast models indicate that the storm will affect a large swath of the coastline from North Carolina up to near New York City. Likely impacts include heavy rain, coastal flooding, destructive storm surge, and high winds. Widespread power outages and travel disruptions are expected as the storm roars up the coast.

It could be a rough week for air travel thanks ot the high winds. Major hubs in cities such as New York City, Washington, D.C., Boston, and Philadelphia are predicted to see some degree of impact from the storm. This could add to the disruptions already happening as a result of the government shutdown.
