1 hour agoSummer has been slow to arrive in the Northeast this year, but that will change this weekend. This corner of the country is forecast to rebound from near-record low temperatures to highs that top the 90-degree threshold. A surge of humidity will make it feel even toastier at times. Read on for all of the details.
Hot and Humid Weather Returning to the Northeast in Time for the Weekend
It is time to break out the sunscreen and tank tops in the Northeast. After a slow start to the summer season, the region is forecast to swelter this weekend under sizzling temperatures paired with high humidity levels. The change in the weather will feel quite dramatic when compared to the last two chilly weekends.
The warm-up will be slow to arrive. The forecast through Thursday is calling for a continuation of the wild temperature changes that have marked the last few months. Cold nights will give way to warmer afternoons throughout the region, thanks to the persistence of a cold air mass originating in Canada.
Friday will mark the start of the warm-up for most of the northeastern U.S. Rising humidity levels will amplify the air temperatures. While humidity readings will still land below what is usually seen in late July and early August, it will feel noticeably muggier when compared to the weather as of late.
You can expect widespread highs in the 80s for the bulk of the interior Northeast. Temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s up and down the Interstate 95 corridor to bring the work week to a close. For instance, New York City is expected to hit 90 degrees on Friday before inching up into the low 90s on Saturday.
