The volatile storm that lashed parts of the West Coast to start the week translated to the wettest October day in years for several cities in California. Here is a look back at some of the eye-popping statistics from this major weather event.

Rainiest October Day in Years for Much of California

The most significant storm system in months ushered in heavy rain and mountain snow to much of California this week, prompting evacuations across recent burn scars in the Los Angeles area. While it is only October, the storm resembled a typical winter atmospheric river for California.

The storm roared in from the Pacific Ocean on Monday morning, funneling a stream of moisture into Northern and Central California to start the day before tracking into Southern California during the overnight hours. This system was a major moisture producer, resulting in record rainfall for many communities. Local officials in Southern California issued mandatory evacuations for areas in and around the Eaton and Palisades fires' burn scars.
