A large swath of the central and eastern United States is forecast to run well above normal from March 9 to March 12, with some areas seeing temperatures 15 to 25 degrees above average as record warmth pushes east. (Climate Central)

Many areas of the central and eastern U.S. will enjoy a preview of summer this week as unseasonably warm temperatures expand. Here is a look at when each area will see the peak of the warmth in the days ahead.

Unseasonable Warmth Spreading to the East

Temperatures are going to run 15 to 25 degrees above average for much of the eastern half of the country to start the week, continuing the trend from the weekend. While an advancing cold front will work to knock down the temperatures to normal levels by the middle of the week, the record-challenging heat will be the case through Wednesday in much of the country.

The warmth that took over the central U.S. over the weekend is marching to the east. New daily high records are being set in a zone from Florida and up into the Ohio Valley, making it feel more like May than the second week of March.

It was a warm start to the weekend across the Ohio Valley, with widespread highs in the 60s and 70s. A few locations even topped the 80-degree mark at times. The northeastern corner of the country started the weekend with a chill in the air; however, that cold air is now on the way out as the warmth expands farther in this direction.
