Record High Temperatures Spreading Across Central and Eastern U.S.

A dramatic warmup will send temperatures to record levels across some areas of the central and eastern U.S. as the week progresses. The springlike temperature will move to the north and the east across the nation's heartland early in the week. A zone from the southern Plains and up into the Midwest will experience the peak warmth on Tuesday, as temperatures climb 20 to 30 degrees above the norm for the middle of February.

This anomaly map shows much of the central and eastern U.S. running warmer than normal, with the deepest reds indicating the biggest departures. In several areas, highs are projected to be 20 to 30 degrees above mid-February averages. |Climate Central

Forecasters are predicting that dozens of daily record highs will fall during this stretch. While the warmth will feel lovely to those who have been through the wringer this winter, the pleasant temperatures will come with their own set of new risks. Gusty winds coming along with a storm from the western U.S. will push across the High Plains as the warmth builds.
