Cold Weather Will Persist Through Monday for Much of the U.S.
It has been an unseasonably chilly beginning to the meteorological winter. Several waves of Arctic air have dipped down from the north, sending the mercury to well below the norm for this time of the year. The influx of frigid temperatures has also ushered in windy conditions, making it feel even colder.
The cold continued to grip the region from the Plains to the interior Northeast and the mid-Atlantic through the weekend. Temperatures hovered in the single digits to the 20s for highs through Sunday across most of the region. For context, these readings are about 20 to 30 degrees below the norm for the first half of December.
