A Town Left in Ruins
Lake Village, Indiana, bore the worst of it. A single supercell thunderstorm churned out at least four tornadoes as it tracked from central Illinois into northwest Indiana Tuesday evening, carving a 3.5-mile path of destruction through the small community. Two people were killed. About 10 others were injured, some trapped inside collapsed homes until rescue crews could reach them.
Photos from the scene show homes reduced to rubble, uprooted trees, and debris scattered across streets. Livestock were seen loose in the aftermath. Four local firefighters returned home after the storm to find their own houses severely damaged.
