Stormy Friday on Tap for Much of the Eastern U.S. as Front Chugs Along

The end of the work week is going to go out with a bang across a large swath of the East Coast. Heavy and gusty thunderstorms will continue to roam up and down the Interstate 95 corridor, ushering in travel disruptions and putting a wrench in outdoor activities. The moisture associated with these storms will also raise the risk of flash flooding.

The storms are riding along with a front that has been crawling to the east throughout the week. Several pockets of severe storms have sprung up along the frontal boundary over the last few days, and Friday will be no different.

Friday's forecast is calling for the greatest threat of severe thunderstorms to fire up across the central and southern portions of the Atlantic coastline. The northern fringe of the storms will reach as far as Washington, D.C. The nation's capital is forecast to see the highest chance of storms in the evening and overnight hours.

The line of storms will expand to the south, encompassing cities such as Richmond and Charlotte. Heading farther south, communities such as Columbia, South Carolina, should also pack an umbrella when headed out for the day. The capital city will see an increased chance of storms as the day progresses. The threat of storms will linger into the overnight hours in this part of the Palmetto State.
