The severe weather machine is set to fire up again across the central U.S. beginning on Sunday.

Here is a peek at what you can expect on Palm Sunday as well as how long the threat of stormy conditions will linger in the nation's heartland.

Saturday Best Day of Weekend for Outdoor Plans in Central Plains

Saturday was the day to plan outdoor chores during the first weekend of spring if you live across the central Plains. Although skies were cloudy in places such as Kansas City, the rain stayed away.

Temperatures trended on the cooler side, maxing out in the low 50s on Saturday before inching up slightly on Sunday.

Heading to the south on Interstate 35, Wichita was under partly cloudy skies with a forecast high of 58 degrees on Saturday. The chance of rain increased in the overnight hours, setting the stage for a potentially stormy Sunday in the city in south-central Kansas.
