More stormy conditions are setting up over the central U.S., as forecasters warn residents to prepare for what could be the worst severe weather outbreak of the young season thus far. Here is a look at when and where the storms are forecast to strike.

Forecasters Issue Rare Level 4 of 5 Severe Weather Alert

The central U.S. will once again be in the crosshairs of what is expected to be a major significant weather outbreak this week. The peak of the storms is forecast to unfold late Tuesday and through Wednesday across a large swath of the Great Plains, the Mississippi Valley, and the Ohio Valley. Likely impacts of this volatile weather pattern include high winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

The Storm Prediction Center placed parts of Illinois and Indiana under a rare Level 4 of 5 moderate risk for severe weather, with storms capable of producing damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail from Texas to Michigan.

It has already been a harsh start to the month of March. A severe weather outbreak last week claimed the lives of at least eight people. The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed two dozen tornadoes in a zone from Texas to Michigan from March 1 through March 8. Twelve of these ripped through Oklahoma, while Michigan notched four twisters.
