A messy start to the new work week is developing across parts of the mid-Atlantic as a quick-moving winter storm is dumping snow in a zone from Kentucky to North Carolina. Here is the latest on this storm that is wreaking havoc on commutes across the region.

A band of accumulating snow is ushering in slippery road conditions across a large swath of interstates 64, 81, and 85 in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. The storm fired up late Sunday and is forecast to last into early Tuesday.

The storm system strengthens into Tuesday, spreading heavier snow from the southern Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic while mixed precipitation develops along the northern edge of the system. (NOAA/NWS)
