Record-breaking high temperatures have been the story for much of the Plains, the Mississippi Valley, and the Southeast this week. Yet some parts of the country have already picked up snowfall measured in feet. Here is a closer look at what regions are already dealing with significant snowfall accumulations as winter inches closer.

Early Snowfall Report Features Accumulation in the Usual Locales

According to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the snow is already piling up across much of the northern U.S. and the higher elevations of the West. However, despite this regional snowfall accumulation, the country has not yet experienced a major winter storm.

The snow machine has already fired up across the Great Lakes and throughout the mountains in the western U.S. A deep freeze over the Veterans Day holiday also sent a few flakes into portions of the southern U.S. For example, snow has already been observed as far south as Atlanta.

Hyde County, North Carolina, also reported a dusting of snow out of last week's winter weather maker. Not too far up the road, Virginia Beach, Virginia, notched three-tenths of an inch of snow.
