The winter storm train is showing no signs of letting up for the Great Lakes and beyond heading into the weekend. More Snow Headed to the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Beyond This Weekend

Over 60 million people across the central U.S. will be caught in the crosshairs of more accumulating snow in the days ahead. The forecast is calling for a wide zone of 1 to 3 inches of new snow from Montana and into Iowa on Saturday. By Sunday, the snow line will spread farther east, reaching the Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley by the end of the weekend.

The greatest concentration of snow is expected in the area from eastern South Dakota and into the central portions of Iowa. Communities in this region should be prepared for an accumulation of 3 to 6 inches.

A developing storm system highlighted by the Weather Prediction Center brings bands of snow, mixed precipitation, and pockets of heavy accumulations across the northern Plains and Midwest, setting the stage for a disruptive winter weekend. NOAA/WPC/NWS
