While California and the Desert Southwest are finally starting to dry out, the action is just getting started in the Plains and the Mississippi Valley. The intense weather maker is going to move into the region, delivering heavy rain, severe storms, and the threat of flash flooding. Here is the latest on this far-reaching storm system.

Powerful Storm Churning Through the Southern Plains and Beyond

A potent storm is targeting the central U.S. to start the Thanksgiving holiday week. After menacing the West Coast for days, the storm moved into the Front Range region, Texas, and portions of the Great Plains on Sunday. Travelers hoping to get a jump start on the holiday encountered gusty winds and heavy rain.

Colder temperatures across the top elevations in New Mexico and Colorado changed some of the rain to snow. Motorists are being advised to check the hourly forecast before heading up into the mountains through Monday. Snow-covered roads and high winds could create slick conditions and reduced visibility. Road conditions may be particularly dicey across Interstate 70 through the Colorado Rockies at this time.
