A rash of October severe weather will start to spread on Thursday, expected to peak on Saturday with widespread storms across the Plains and the Mississippi Valley. While Saturday's storms are predicted to usher in the most dangerous impacts, residents in this part of the country will want to pay heed to potential activity on Thursday and Friday as well. Here is a look at what to expect over the next few days in this part of the central U.S.

Outdoor plans could be in jeopardy across the Mississippi Valley and much of the Plains as a cross-country storm system pushes out of the Rockies and to the east. These storms will deliver a number of potentially hazardous impacts, including frequent lightning strikes, damaging winds, and hail the size of golf balls.

Strong storms erupted Wednesday from Albuquerque to Rapid City, with hail and damaging wind gusts topping 50–60 mph. (weatherforecastnow.com)
