4 hours agoHeavy rain and mountain snow will continue to beat down on the West Coast to start the week. Here is a look at what you can expect in the waning days of this intense weather maker that has been pummeling California and Oregon.
One Last Storm Roaring Through California and the Northwest
A large slice of the West Coast has been dealing with torrential rain and disruptive snow over the last few days, with forecasters warning that more is on the way. A strong area of low pressure came ashore in California on Sunday, triggering widespread rainfall that is still falling on Monday.
A weekend storm roared ashore Saturday night, ushering in rain showers to a wide swath of California and to the north into western Washington. This system expanded into the Desert Southwest on Sunday. This corner of the U.S. welcomed the latest influx of moisture as it continues to experience drought conditions.
A slightly drier weather pattern will spread across the West on Monday before the next storm arrives on Tuesday. The latest storm will target areas farther to the north, impacting the Pacific Northwest, Idaho, and the western flank of Montana.
Forecasters are calling for rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches throughout much of central and northern California and up into Oregon. Higher amounts of 2 to 3 inches are likely along the coastline of Northern California and Oregon. The Sierra Nevada foothills could see rain totals exceed 3 to 5 inches.
The storm on Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to reach as far as eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and the northeastern corner of Oregon. According to the last update from the U.S. Drought Monitor, all of these regions could use a good dousing due to the ongoing drought conditions.
