The NOAA Weather Prediction Center forecast map for September 12, 2025, shows areas of rain, thunderstorms, and potential flash flooding across parts of the U.S. (NOAA)

The Plains states will be under the threat of severe weather on Friday and Saturday as a budding storm system pair with rising temperatures to create unsettled conditions. Here is a closer look at the forecasted timing and impact zones of this weather maker.

Storms Back in the Forecast for the Plains

The return of warm weather will lay the groundwork for the associated return of stormy conditions to a large swath of the Plains beginning on Friday. The primary threats coming out of this system will be high winds and large hail.

The temperatures have been on the upswing across the Plains throughout the week. The arrival of a system coming over the Rockies late in the week will supply the energy needed for rain showers and thunderstorm development heading into the weekend.

A strengthening high-pressure system will drive very warm temperatures from Texas to the Upper Midwest between Wednesday and Friday. (weatherforecastnow.com)
