Summer's Early Preview: What June Weather Has in Store
Jennifer Gaeng
Last monthMay fooled a lot of people. Temperatures stayed surprisingly cool across much of the middle United States, making spring feel almost pleasant instead of the typical pre-summer scorcher. Don't get too comfortable—June looks like it's bringing the heat that May postponed.
NOAA's Climate Prediction Center released their monthly outlook on May 31st, and the picture shifts dramatically from what we just experienced. Nearly the entire Lower 48 faces odds favoring well above average temperatures, with only parts of the southern and central Great Plains getting a break from the heat forecast.
Spring still ended up warmer than average coast to coast despite May's mild temperatures. That's how front-loaded the season was with early heat. Now summer wants to make up for lost time.
