Temperatures Soar Across Western U.S. With Little Relief in Sight
Alexis Thornton
5 months agoThe heat dome that has been anchored over the western U.S. in recent days is not showing any signs of letting up. This will translate to unseasonably warm temperatures for much of the Southwest and into the interior portions of the Northwest in the coming days. Here is a look at this sizzling forecast.
Records Fall Across the West Thanks to Stubborn Heat Dome
It has already been a hot start to the month of June for the western U.S. Several daily high temperatures records were set last week thanks to the early season heat dome. The enhanced ridge in the jet stream worked to bring hot air from the Four Corners region up into parts of Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
This heat was in addition to the stifling temperatures that had already been impacting cities such as Las Vegas and Phoenix. For instance, Las Vegas set a new daily record on Thursday when the temperature hit 111 degrees. Another record was set on Friday with a reading of 110 degrees. Sin City was under an excessive heat warning through Saturday evening with just slight cooling expected on Sunday.
