Lawmakers Announce New Investigation Into Texas Flooding Tragedy
A group of legislators in Texas has been appointed to further investigate the flooding event that killed at least 136 people in the central part of the state on July 4, 2025. The announcement of a new formal investigation comes less than a month after Camp Mystic said that it is planning to reopen its doors to campers next summer.
The news out of Camp Mystic that it is back in business was upsetting to families that are still mourning the loss of their children. Dozens of campers and counselors lost their lives in the flooding disaster along the Guadalupe River in the early morning hours of the Fourth of July. Among the fatalities were 27 young girls. The flood waters overflowed the banks of the Guadalupe, rushing through the camp and washing away cabins that were located near the river.
The river travels through several summer camps in Texas Hill Country. This vulnerable location has prompted a more thorough assessment of the safety of these camps near a river that is known to flood.
