What to Expect in the Days Leading Up to Halloween
Halloween week is here, and kids all over the nation are gearing up to head outside on Friday for all of the festivities. From parades to trick-or-treating to block parties, a good chunk of the festive activities will take place outside. The long-range forecast indicates that while most of the U.S. will enjoy calm conditions on Friday, the Pacific Northwest and the East Coast could be in store for Halloween trouble.
A storm that is expected to come together along the East Coast this week could bring more than just garden-variety rain showers and breezy conditions in the days ahead. The weather maker began to impact the south-central U.S. this weekend, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds.
The state of Texas experienced the first of the impacts late Friday and into Saturday. Over 260,000 people woke up in the dark on Saturday in the Houston metro area. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) field office in Houston, a top wind gust of 64 mph was notched during the peak of the activity. Some portions of Interstate 45 were left completely underwater, causing widespread travel disruptions.
