Meteor shower season is basically year-round in 2026, but a few peak nights could deliver the “did you see that?!” sky show. Add these dates now. NASA

Stargazers are eagerly awaiting a full slate of meteor showers in 2026. Nearly every month will feature one of these astronomical events this year, providing plenty of opportunities to check out the brilliant displays in the night sky. However, some of the most historically vibrant meteor showers may be obstructed by the brightness of the moon. Here is what you need to put on your calendar in the coming months.

Lyrid Meteor Shower: April 21 and 22

The Lyrids kick off the spring skywatching season on April 21–22, with up to about 20 meteors per hour on a good night.

The winter months are not traditionally the best time to see shooting stars. A lack of major meteor showers combined with a higher chance of cloudy skies makes it the weakest time of the year to see this display of Mother Nature. However, that all changes in the spring months, starting with the Lyrids in April.

This year's Lyrid show is set to peak on the night of April 21 and 22, fittingly happening alongside Earth Day. You can expect to see up to 20 meteors per hour with the Lyrids.
