Tornado Kills 2 in Oklahoma as Severe Storm Threat Pushes East

7 hours agoA mother and daughter were killed Thursday night in western Oklahoma after a tornado struck their vehicle, marking a deadly start to a two-day severe weather outbreak already affecting a wide stretch of the Plains and Midwest.
Fatal Tornado Strikes Near Fairview
The two victims were traveling near State Highway 60 and 243 Road west of Fairview, Oklahoma, when the tornado hit, according to Major County Sheriff Tony Robinson. A tornado warning had been in effect for parts of Major County between 8 and 9 pm CT. The county sits approximately 80 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.
The same storm system blew over a semi-trailer in Major County and produced a reported tornado in neighboring Grant County that downed trees, power lines, and damaged structures, according to the National Weather Service.
In total, Thursday night's storms generated seven tornado reports stretching from the Texas Panhandle up through south-central Kansas. Golf ball-sized hail or larger also hammered parts of the region throughout the evening.
