A powerful stretch of severe weather swept across the central United States over the weekend.

According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, millions of Americans were under enhanced severe weather risks as atmospheric conditions became increasingly unstable.

Forecasts Turned Increasingly Dangerous by Sunday

Forecasters had been monitoring the severe weather setup for several days, but confidence in a major outbreak increased significantly by Sunday afternoon as atmospheric instability surged across the Plains.

Meteorologists began warning that isolated supercell thunderstorms could rapidly strengthen and produce tornadoes, giant hail, and destructive winds across multiple states.
