Satellite imagery shows Tropical Storm Gabrielle strengthening over the central Atlantic, with forecasts predicting hurricane status by Sunday (NOAA).

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is forecast to intensify into a hurricane by the end of the weekend as it continues its journey through the central Atlantic. Here is the latest information on the seventh named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

Latest Update on Tropical Storm Gabrielle

As of the Friday update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Gabrielle was churning about 945 miles to the southeast of Bermuda. The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph with some higher gusts near the center. Gabrielle is moving to the west-northwest at a speed of 12 mph. The NHC is predicting gradual strengthening with Gabrielle expected to evolve into a hurricane by Sunday.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is projected to bring tropical-storm-force winds toward Bermuda by late weekend, with hurricane strength possible (NOAA).

While Gabrielle is currently tracking to the west-northwest, it is expected to make a turn toward the northwest by the end of the day Friday. The latest forecast models then show it turning to the north-northwest by Saturday night.

These tracks would take the center of Gabrielle to the east of Bermuda on Sunday night and into Monday. The dangerous swells generated by Gabrielle will build throughout the weekend in Bermuda. The NHC is warning that life-threatening surf and rip currents are likely.

Gabrielle is not expected to impact the U.S.
