Tropical Storm Dexter became the fourth named system of the Atlantic hurricane season late Sunday night, forming off a stalled frontal boundary in the western Atlantic between the Outer Banks and Bermuda.
After developing sustained thunderstorms and breaking away from the front, the system earned tropical storm status. Thankfully, Dexter is already tracking eastward and away from the U.S., with no direct impacts expected.
However, beachgoers should be cautious—high surf and dangerous rip currents are still possible along portions of the East Coast for the next few days.
