The federal government is preparing to release decades of classified files on unidentified flying objects and unidentified anomalous phenomena. President Donald Trump confirmed on April 29, 2026, that the release is moving forward, describing some of the material as "very interesting" and pointing to direct conversations with military pilots as part of what shaped his view on the subject.

What Trump Has Said

Speaking to reporters from the White House, Trump said his administration will release "as much as we can in the near future" related to UFOs and UAPs. He described interviewing military pilots during his first term who reported encounters they could not explain. "They said they saw things that you wouldn't believe," Trump told reporters. "And you're going to be reading about it."

The president framed the planned release as a response to the public's long-running interest in the subject. He cited "tremendous interest" from Americans as a key reason for moving forward. In February 2026, Trump signed a directive instructing the Department of Defense to disclose any and all information related to UFOs, unidentified aerial phenomena, and extraterrestrial life. His administration has described the disclosure process as already well underway.
