Latest Forecast for Tropical Storm Lorenzo

TROPICAL STORM LORENZO (NHC)

With about six weeks still left in the Atlantic hurricane season, meteorologists are predicting that more action is on the way in the short term. As of the late Monday update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Storm Lorenzo was packing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph as it moved to the northwest at a speed of 12 mph. Lorenzo officially took on defined tropical characteristics at about 5 am EDT on Monday as it churned in the main development region of the Atlantic.

Lorenzo is the twelfth named storm in the Atlantic this year. While it has been a quiet season for the Atlantic, it may not feel like it this week for a large swath of the mid-Atlantic and up to the Northeast. A subtropical storm that formed off the coast of the Southeast over the weekend has been hammering the Eastern Seaboard with gusty winds, heavy rain, coastal flooding, and beach erosion.
