A new outlook from is offering a glimpse into what the U.S. should expect in November, December, and January. Will winter make an early appearance, or will the beauty of fall linger through November? And what does this outlook have to say about December and January? Read on for all of the details.

Impacts of La Niña's Emergence

You may have heard that La Niña is back. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) made weather news earlier in the month when it declared the emergence of a La Niña climate phase. With the emergence of this phase, some parts of the U.S. will see an extension of the fall weather, while other areas will see a quick start to the winter season.

The late-season warmth is forecast to linger for the Upper Midwest and the Plains states. This will simply be a continuation of the unseasonably warm fall for this corner of the country. Although you cannot rule out the brief intrusion of cold air across the Upper Midwest and the Plains, warm and dry days will be the norm for the month of November.
