2 hours agoWill the opening of the NASCAR season be in doubt this weekend? The forecast of heavy rain and severe storms could put a damper on the week across much of the southern U.S. and into Florida. Here is an updated look at the soggy and stormy forecast heading into the weekend.
Severe Storms and Heavy Rain in the Forecast for the Southern U.S.
The extended Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day weekend could be a mess for a large swath of the southern U.S. and Florida. In addition to the garden-variety rain showers, the unsettled weather pattern will also come with the risk of severe storms.
The far-reaching storm will move from the western U.S. to the east as the weekend progresses. This system will bring the first chance of severe thunderstorms in months to millions of Americans. More than a dozen states in a zone from the southern High Plains and across the Gulf Coast into the southeastern U.S. coastline will be under the gun for a soaking rainfall.
